The Overall Experience

With a faculty deeply committed to education, research and patient care, the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Training Progam at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine offers young orthopaedic surgeons the opportunity to learn and hone the practice of orthopaedic medicine in an enviroment featuring a unique blend of diversity, mentorship and professional development.

But residency is more than more than just case logs and OR experience.  It's a time to develop relationships with mentors, to enjoy down time with friends.  A time to grow and to challenge yourself --whether it be with your research project, closing on a home, running your first marathon or slam dunking one at the next resident intramural basketball game.

The city of St. Louis provides residents with an inviting array of opportunities. Single, urban professionals will enjoy the low cost of living coupled with plenty of entertainment to choose from, while those with partners and/or families can enjoy many free activities - both indoor and out --throughout the bi-state region.  Learn more about St. Louis.

With a unique focus on professional development and mentorship, the department sponsors a wide variety of activities throughout the year for residents and faculty members.  These range from the annual Welcome Party (hosted this year by Dr and Mrs Jeff (Nan) Johnson) to the much-anticipated after-grad party at the home of Rick and Lana Wright to monthly journal club events at the homes of faculty members to the Department Golf Tournament.
