Thank you for your interest in the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program at Washington University.

We exclusively utilize ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service) for the residency application process. Please note that paper applications received outside of ERAS will not be reviewed.

If you are interested in applying to our program, please contact your medical school of graduation for your ERAS information and application packet.

If you are an international medical graduate, please contact your local ECFMG office for more information on ERAS.

Early applications are encouraged. A preliminary review of each application will be made upon receipt; this will be on a first-come, first-served basis. A Dean's letter is not required for initial review. Applications should consist of all ERAS materials (including three letters of recommendation, medical school transcripts and documentation of national USMLE, Board or FLEX scores) as well as three completed supplemental evaluation forms.

DEADLINES FOR APPLICATION TO THE RESIDENCY PROGRAM
The deadline for receipt of all materials except the Dean's Letter is November 1.

Deadline for receipt of your Dean's Letter is November 15.

Files which are not complete by these deadlines will not be considered.

The Supplemental Evaluation Form
In addition to the ERAS application the Selection Committee requires that each person who is writing a letter of recommendation on your behalf complete an evaluation form. You may access the form by clicking here. (Requires Adobe Acrobat Reader)

Once completed, supplemental forms should be mailed under separate to our Education Office.   (Please note that these should NOT be scanned into ERAS.)

It is no longer necessary to submit a hard copy of your curriculum vitae via US Post.  The ERAS-formatted cv will suffice for application review.

If you have further questions, please contact Michelle Tuetken in the Orthopaedic Surgery Education Office at orthsurg@wudosis.wustl.edu or (314) 747-2835.

All applicants, PLEASE NOTE this new policy from our Graduate Medical Education Office for the 2004-05 academic year:

The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organization (JCAHO) has clarified HR Standard 1.20 to provide that hospitals are now required to screen trainees in the same manner as staff employed by the hospital if the trainees work in the same capacity as staff who provide care, treatment and services. In order to meet this standard and continue to provide safe, quality patient care and excellent educational opportunities, the GME Consortium has implemented additional screening requirements for trainees. These  additional requirements are consistent with the requirements imposed on other employed staff.

House staff paid by Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis Children’s Hospital and Washington  University School of Medicine are required to successfully pass all screening requirements including a drug test and criminal background check prior to beginning their training at this institution. All Consortium policies and procedures governing house staff are available on the GME website at http://aladdin.wustl.edu/gme/gme.nsf/ under the link "About the GME Consortium".
